People who live, work, study or travel through Glen Eyre Road are being invited to have their say on proposed changes to the road as Southampton City Council launches a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) consultation.
The new proposals have been developed in direct response to feedback from local residents and road users following the introduction of the Glen Eyre Road scheme in January 2024. While the overall scheme has helped reduce vehicle speeds and support safer travel, the council has continued to listen to concerns raised by people about the operation of the build-outs and how they affect everyday journeys.
As a result, the council is proposing to remove most of the build-outs, while retaining the three that support the electric vehicle charging bays. The proposals also include removing the e-scooter and e-bike parking and making several minor changes to parking and waiting restrictions to support the revised layout.
We are bringing forward the proposals now to take advantage of resurfacing and drainage works due in Glen Eyre Road, using this opportunity to minimise disruption and save costs by completing these works all at the same time.
The TRO consultation is the next stage in bringing forward the changes that residents have asked for and gives local people the opportunity to review the detailed proposals and share their views before a final decision is made.
If no significant issues are raised through this process, then we will move ahead with our plan to complete these works alongside the forthcoming resurfacing and drainage works.

Residents and road users have taken the time to tell us what was working well and what they felt could be improved. These proposals are a direct response to that feedback and show that we are listening.
"We know how important Glen Eyre Road is for people travelling to work, school, university, local businesses and nearby homes. That's why it's vital that as many people as possible take part in this consultation and help shape the future of the road.
