For over 50 years, we have been advising and supporting the people of Southampton with volunteering and highlighting the powerful benefits it can bring.
We know that some people see volunteering as โfree workโ that wonโt necessarily get you anywhere. Why give your time for free when you donโt get anything in return?
Well, we hear you.
In the current economic climate, where jobs can be difficult to find, and frustrations and concerns around mental wellbeing are high, we understand that volunteering might be the last thing on your mind.
But did you know that volunteering can actually be good for your wellbeing?
It can help you build new skills, develop confidence, create structure and give you a sense of purpose. Thatโs why SVS runs a free volunteer drop-in service for anyone aged 18 and over living in the SO14 to SO19 postcode areas. Our team is here to help you find a volunteering opportunity thatโs right for you.
We get it, finding the right volunteer role can be difficult. Maybe you donโt know what you want to do, youโre not sure what opportunities are available, or you simply need a bit of guidance. Thatโs where we come in. Our team will listen to what youโre looking for and help guide you towards a role that fits your interests, circumstances and goals.
For some people, volunteering can provide valuable work experience. For others, it can be a chance to learn something new, meet people, develop friendships, gain new skills, improve time management or simply enjoy a change of scenery. The list really is endless. And you donโt have to commit to hours and hours every week. Even an hour of volunteering can make a difference, not only to the organisation you volunteer with, but to you too.
We canโt promise you a job, but we can help point you in the right direction. Volunteering could be the first step towards something you hadnโt considered before, whether thatโs developing new skills, building confidence or simply trying something different.
So, if you fancy a change, want to try something new or would like to give something back to your wonderful Southampton community, why not come and visit SVS?
Our volunteer drop-in takes place every Tuesday from 10 am to 12 pm. Itโs free, confidential and safe. Most importantly, we listen to you and help you find a volunteering opportunity thatโs the right fit for you.
You never know where an hour of volunteering could take you. Available volunteer roles and more information can be found on the official project website of SO:Linked.
