Families across Southampton can once again enjoy one of the city's most popular outdoor play destinations, as the refurbished Common Play Area has officially reopened.
Located in the heart of Southampton Common, the much-loved play area has undergone a major transformation, with new play equipment, improved sand play areas and upgraded water play features, creating more opportunities for children to play, explore and be active outdoors.
The improvements form part of Southampton City Council's ongoing investment in parks and green spaces, helping ensure residents have access to high-quality outdoor facilities that support healthy, active lifestyles.
The play area has now completed all necessary inspections and safety checks and is ready to welcome visitors once again.
Councillor John Savage, Cabinet Member for Environment and Net Zero, said:
We're delighted to reopen the Common Play Area and welcome families back to this fantastic space. Southampton Common is one of the city's most treasured green spaces, and these improvements will help ensure children and families can enjoy it for years to come."
"The new facilities provide more opportunities for play, adventure and outdoor activity, and we're looking forward to seeing residents make the most of them throughout the summer and beyond.
Southampton City Council would like to thank residents for their patience while the improvement works were carried out and hope families enjoy everything the revitalised play area has to offer.
